Look Ma! No Morals!

What is it they say? Better late than never.

With apologies, this week’s Heroes recap is finally here, late and short.

Sometimes real life gets in the way of tv watching and recapping. Sorry ‘bout that.

And away we go…

This week opens with Hiro and Ando returning to the “present” with a copy of Isaac’s comic book. They figure it can guide them to what they need to do to stop Sylar, but without the words in the speech balloons, it’s going to be difficult to determine Isaac’s vision. Too bad they don’t know that the real danger to New York isn’t Sylar, but Peter Petrelli.

Speaking of Petrelli the Younger, he and Claire have a heart to heart about her leaving for Paris . She just wants to let Nathan and Mamma Petrelli protect her, but Peter is convinced that Claire is a pivotal component in the race to save the world. He tells her that it’s him that explodes and destroys New York in a nuclear type event. She immediately makes the connection to Ted, the guy that burnt down her house.

Ted is busy warming up the car while Matt Parkman and Claire’s Father, Bennet discuss The Company’s new tracking technology, “The Walker System”, that can track anyone, anywhere. Bennet convinces Parkman that their first priority is to “wipe out” this tracking system. Of course, they don’t know that “The Walker System” is actually a little girl, Molly Walker, who was once on Sylar’s hit list, but managed to evade him by hiding in a closet. Isn’t it funny that one of Parkman’s first “hits” was finding a little girl who turns out to have the power to locate people?

Coincidence, good writing or excellent planning on the part of the writers?

Speaking of Sylar, he’s using his newly acquired powers of prescient painting to take a peek into his future. What he sees doesn’t make him very happy. Obviously the paintings that come from Isaac’s power don’t come with crib notes. From the painting he’s created, Sylar infers that he is going to take Ted’s power and then cause the disaster that Isaac painted on the floor of his studio. Surprisingly, Sylar’s next move is to call Suresh and try to enlist his help in preventing the explosion, but when hyper hearing detects Mohinder dialing 9-1-1, he decides that asking for Suresh’s help was a mistake.

Jessica and D.L. are arguing about what happened to Micah. D.L. decides that he’ll get his son back on his own, regardless of the consequences.

Micah is being babysat by Candice, but she’s doing it in the guise of Nikki. Not realizing that Micah has a lot of experience in figuring out just who his Mom is at any given moment, she is unaware that the little boy sees right through her illusion.

Thompson and Mohinder meet, apparently right below the rooms where Micah is being held. Thompson wants Suresh’s help with Molly Walker. She has a virus that is stopping her from accessing her powers and it turns out that Mohinder’s late sister Chanti holds the key to a cure. While Suresh is angered by Thompson’s manipulations, when he learns that little Molly may hold the key to stopping Sylar, he has little choice but to agree to help.

So, will Molly’s “Find a person” power be the key OR will that nifty virus she’s managed to contract (No doubt with The Company’s help) be the weapon that puts a stop to his rampage.

As Sylar freshens up for his Mother’s Day visit, Hiro and Ando show up at Isaac’s studio. When they realize that they aren’t alone, they hide behind one of the large canvasses. Of course, Sylar can hear hearts beating, so he knows that they’re there. Fortunately, Hiro seems to have grasped better control of his powers and is able to teleport both he and Ando before Sylar finds them.

D.L. phases himself and Jessica into Linderman’s art restoration room. Jessica didn’t seem to enjoy the ride.

“Do that again and I’ll kill you.”

“You’re lucky I didn’t leave your ass stuck in the wall, after what you did.”

In the room they find a picture of Micah, surrounded by flames, and by the style it’s a Mendez. They also find that Linderman has tracked their entire lives, possibly even to the point of manipulating the two of them into a relationship.

I still think that Peter’s patient, Simone’s father, had the power of prophetic dreaming, and now I think that perhaps he worked with Linderman in the past to help him “create” his vision of the future. It would certainly explain a lot.

Suresh introduces himself to Molly and quizzes her about her ability while he takes a blood sample from her. He tells her that he wants to stop the man who hurt her family.

“You can’t stop the Boogie Man. He sees into your soul and then he eats your brain.”

Suresh figures that Molly’s ability will help The Company find Sylar so they can stop him. Personally, I think that they’re going to need Molly’s virus to do that, not just her ability to find him.

Peter and Claire bring their suspicions about Ted Sprague being the cause of the explosion to Nathan, in the hopes that he might be able to use his pull to find Sprague before he can do any damage. Naturally, they’re unaware that Nathan has sold his soul to Linderman in return for a seat in Congress and a future as leader of the free world.

Nathan points out that Peter dreamt that he blew up New York .

“Yeah, I also dream that I can fly, we know how that turned out for you.”

“You can fly?”



Nathan agrees to try to help. After Claire and Peter leave, he makes only one call. To Linderman.

Sylar shows up on his Mother’s doorstep, bearing a gift. A snowglobe for her collection. She even has a snowglobe of her son as a boy. Somehow I find that creepier than all the brains Slyar ever extracted.

Through their conversation, we see the unrealistic expectations that she’s projected on to her boy.

“Maybe I don’t have to be special. That’s ok. To just be a normal watch-maker. Can’t you just tell me that’s enough?”

“Why would I tell you that, when I know you could be so much more? If you wanted, you could be President.”

Ah, passive aggressive mothers who project delusions of grandeur upon their children. I bet she’s in a bridge club with Mrs. Luthor.

When Peter and Claire arrive at Nathan’s campaign headquarters, Claire sees Nathan talking to Thompson, the man that her Father took a bullet to hide her from. While Peter still believes in his brother, Claire isn’t so convinced. She’s not convinced that Peter really knows what will happen in the future.

“The truth is, you have no idea what’s going to happen.”

Nathan isn’t convinced that Thompson and Linderman can secure his victory.

“You’re nervous.”

“Nervous? You want to blow up half of New York .”

“Yes, we do.”

Claire points out that Peter has the option to run the other way instead of possibly playing out the Peter Kaboom scenario.

“If we save ourselves, who’s going to save everyone else?”

Of course, if he wasn’t around, then there’s not much likelihood that Sprague would loose control of his powers, but why split hairs?

Nathan wants to know why he has to sacrifice his brother to Linderman’s vision of the future.

“For the best of reasons.”

When his “Mom” hops into the shower, Micah takes the opportunity to escape, but Candice can make him see anything she wants, so he doesn’t get far.

“Look, I don’t want to hurt you. I like you. But if you don’t listen to what Mr. Linderman says, well, I’ll show you things that will seriously mess you up for life.”

She smiles when she says it too. God, I love that woman.



Sylar tries to explain his powers and his destiny to his Mother. At first, she’s thrilled by his abilities, but when his telekinesis gets out of control and she gets hit with one of her own snow globes, she starts to see the monster that her child has become.



Molly helps Mohinder clean up the mess he makes of his lab in his frustration at being unable to help her. They find a picture of his sister and when he notices that his Mother is pregnant in the picture, he makes a connection.

Slyar tries to talk to his Mother, but she’s too frightened to leave her room. Ando and Hiro have been watching and Ando figures that now, while Sylar is distracted, Hiro has his best opportunity to stop him.

Hiro can’t kill a man who is asking for forgiveness.

When Sylar struggles with his scissor wielding Mother and accidentally stabs her in the chest, Hiro finally sees that Sylar can’t be forgiven. He stops time and closes in for the kill. Somehow, Sylar breaks free of Hiro’s power and grabs Hiro’s sword by the blade.

Ando bursts in, distracting Sylar just long enough for Hiro to once again teleport them to safety. Sadly, Hiro’s sword is broken in the process.

Turns out that Mohinder himself was the cure that his Father found. His parents conceived him in hopes that his blood would contain the right anti-bodies to heal Chanti. Unfortunately, they were a few months too late. Mohinder won’t be.

Peter gives Claire a gun as a precaution against him going Kablewie and taking out half the city.

He figures that if he does absorb Ted’s power, she can get close enough to put a bullet in his head and stop him.

“My destiny is not to shoot you. The universe cannot be that lame.”

When she asks how he can be so sure, he shows her his drawings of the future, including one she recognizes as Ted. It even shows where they can find him.

Mamma Petrelli comes to Nathan’s office to offer moral support to her son. It seems that she knows all about Linderman’s plan to propel her son to the Presidency. She’s even contributed. She’s there to reassure him and provide some guidance. In her view, “Important men make impossible decisions.” In her day, they had a phrase that covered the sort of tough choices and leadership that he will have to provide after the disaster, it was known as “Being Presidential”.

“Can you be the one we need? That’s my boy.”

I’m guessing that Mamma Petrelli dropped in on Mamma Sylar’s bridge club every once in a while.

Claire and Peter reunite with the three men who’ve come to New York to destroy “The Walker System”. Unfortunately, Peter gets too close to Ted in the process…
